Who is Richard Yap?
Philippine showbiz world is obsessed with youth — the younger, the better. With the likes of Daniel Padilla and James Reid hogging the limelight, it seemed like the heartthrob status is reserved for the young; — then comes Richard Yap.
In his 40s, Richard Yap was just like everyone else—a regular employee. But Yap, born May 18, 1967, never thought that broadcasting giant ABS-CBN would be instrumental to his phenomenal jump in showbiz.
Richard was asked by a friend to audition for a role in a new TV series. While being used to getting TV commercial stints, he never thought that acting will get into his life. He got the audition and soon was launched as an actor in 2011 as Kim Chiu’s father “Papa Chen” in the series My Binondo Girl. And it didn’t take long before his charm swept everyone across the nation.
After his very successful debut into showbiz as Papa Chen in My Binondo Girl, the clamor to see more of the charming Chinoy prompted his network to give him the lead role of “Ser Chief” in the phenomenal hit morning soap, Be Careful with My Heart., which ran from 2012 to 2014.
As the strict widower boss-turned-devoted boyfriend of the ever sunny Maya dela Rosa (Jodi Sta. Maria), Ser Chief became an even more popular household name in the Cinderella-inspired modern day love story. The May-December pairing was also successful in achieving the all-important “kilig factor” in Pinoy teleseryes, and even earned added points in presenting family values in lighthearted script.
Soon after, movies, concert, recording, product endorsements are all in the table. His face became a household name from all his TV projects and TV ads exposures.
Now at 50 THE MAN is a certified star and remains one of Philippine showbiz brightest and most dependable leading men.
